DESCRIPTION:Join the Democrats of Jefferson County for The Blue Soirée at the historic Claymont Court Mansion\, hosted by the Jefferson County Democratic Executive Committee!\nWe’ll enjoy an evening of socializing\, fellowship\, live music\, a DJ and an exciting auction\, along with remarks by our honored guest\, former Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn.\n\n\n$50: General admission\n$40: Current high school or college students\n$500: Event sponsor*\n$20: Copy of Officer Dunn’s book\n\nHeavy hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be provided.\n*Event sponsors receive 8 tickets\, reserved seating\, special recognition\, and a copy of Dunn’s book.\nAttire: Guests are encouraged to incorporate blue into their dress for the event.\n\nThe Venue:\nClaymont Court was built for Bushrod Corbin Washington\, George Washington’s grand-nephew and later became home to famed author Frank Stockton and then Elsie Bogardus Murphy\, Jefferson County’s most prominent philanthropist. The 16\,000 square foot mansion is considered the grandest of the Washington Family homes in Jefferson County.\n\n\nThe Speaker:\nHarry Dunn joined the United States Capitol Police Force in 2008. He served as a first responder and as a member of the Capitol Police Crisis Negotiation Team. In 2017\, he was named a field training officer.\nOn January 6th\, 2021\, Dunn was on duty outside the Capitol\, but was called inside to guard an area where injured officers were stationed\, as well as Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office. Dunn advocated for the creation of a commission to investigate January 6th and later testified before that Committee.\n\nIn 2021 he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal and in 2023 President Biden awarded him the Presidential Citizens Medal.\n\nDunn holds a BS in public health from James Madison University\, where he played football.\n\nSince leaving the police force in 2023\, he wrote a book\, Standing My Ground: A Capitol Police Officer’s Fight for Accountability and Good Trouble After January 6th. Dunn lost a close primary race for the United States House in Maryland this year.
